Inversiunea în engleza este o construcție gramaticală unde ordinea normală subiect-verb este schimbată, adesea pentru a pune accentul sau în propoziții condiționale. Ea apare în contexte specifice, cum ar fi după anumite expresii negative.
Cazuri comune de inversiune
- După 'never', 'rarely', 'seldom' 'Never have I seen such a beautiful sunset' (în loc de 'I have never seen').
- În propoziții cu 'only' 'Only then did she understand the problem' (în loc de 'She understood only then').
- În propoziții condiționale tipul 3 'Had I known, I would have helped' (în loc de 'If I had known').
