Genitivul saxon în engleză arată posesia și se formează prin adăugarea apostrof + s ('s) la substantiv. De exemplu, 'the boy's book' înseamnă 'cartea băiatului'. Este folosit pentru oameni, animale, locuri și timp.
Reguli de formare
- Substantive la singular Adaugă 's: Mary's car, the cat's tail, London's parks
- Substantive la plural care se termină în -s Adaugă doar apostrof: the students' homework, the dogs' toys
- Substantive la plural neregulate Adaugă 's: the children's room, the men's shoes
- Substantive care se termină în -s la singular Adaugă 's sau doar apostrof: James's book sau James' book (ambele sunt corecte)
